The main event in January/February is Carnival Tangomania - a community directed,
joint action of the milonga organizers in Budapest with the goal to
have lots of fun at milongas and activate the beginner dancers.
The rules of Carnival Tangomania are simple: Attend any or all of the
Carnival Tangomania milongas and put your name on the entrance ticket.
Throw it into the Carnival Tangomania box. The winner is the person
who comes to the greatest number of milongas during the time of CT -
there are 19 allotogether! The winner gets free entrance for him/her
and a partner for all milongas in March. We have also special prizes
for 10 most active tangueros taking part in the Carnival Tangomania.

Dear tango dancers,
As some of you already know, in the middle of February 2010 we will travel to Argentina for three months in order to further develop in this dance, and afterwards we will move to Poland from Hungary. In the remaining one month we will continue to organize here in Budapest our Friday and Sunday milongas, our intermediate level classes before the milongas, and we are available for private classes as well during the weekdays, in the evenings and on the weekends.

Unfortunately, we have to cancel this Friday's milonga (October 30th) as both Feszek and Urania have their own special programmes.
On Sunday (November 1st), the milonga will take place in Feszek Restaurant (Kertesz utca 36)from 20:30 till 23:30, DJ Peter. To respect All Saints Day we won't play any milongas - only valses and tangos. Before the milonga,from 19:30 till 20:30 we are going to teach an open-level class on simple and neat volcadas.

We're back from Poland with some great new tangos and lots of energy. :) On Friday (October, 23rd) Retrolonga is cancelled because of the national holiday (both Urania and Feszek are closed). On Sunday though (October, 25th) don't miss our class starting at 20:00 till 21:00 during which we'll be working on slow-motion moves for tango and milonga and Urania milonga (21:00 - 24:00).

This Friday's Retrolonga (September 18th) will exceptionally take place in a beautiful room of Tiszti Klub (Krisztina ter 1, 1st floor, 1st district). DJ Misia, milonga starts at 21:00 and finishes at midnight. Before the Retrolonga there will be a vals class, from 20:00 till 21:00 - we are going to play with the syncopations in vals.
On Sunday (September 20th) we would like to invite you to a special event - Tango Brunch at Columbus ship, right in the centre of Budapest (Vigadó tér), with the gorgeous view over the Buda hills and the castle.
We especially warmly welcome all tangueros with kids as the event will take place from 15:30 till 18:30. The entrance fee (1000Ft) includes a 500Ft drink ticket. The great atmosphere is guaranteed together with great music played by DJ Peter.

In September Retrolonga in reopening, however, in Urania Cafe (Urania Nemzeti Filmszinhaz, Rakoczi ut 21, 1088 Budapest)! This way we're going to have two milongas weekly in this beautiful place - on Friday and on Sunday.
The first Retrolonga in Urania will take place on September 4th, from 21:00 till 24:00, DJ Misia. Before the Retrolonga we would like to welcome you to a milonga or vals class from 20:00 till 21:00. The class will take place in Urania as well; the level is open - we'll start with simple concepts and move to more complex ideas and moves.

We would like to invite you to our tango nuevo workshops to warm up - even though it's the middle of summer - improve technique, quality of the movement and musicality before the intensive weekend with Homer and Cristina Ladas in August. Instead of a usual technique class, we decided to incorporate 15 minutes of technique for leaders and followers into every class. On the basis of the presented technique we are going to work more on the quality of the movement, precise leading and responsive following, connection and musicality of the given movement.

April 30 - May 3 Danube Tango Meeting
With a great pleasure we would like to present Danube Tango Meeting taking place in a magical and beautiful Budapest, with all the venues being right in the heart of it. Our focus is to create a space for social dancing with:
- great music (4 DJs, live orchestras)
- warm and friendly atmosphere (no boasting about that! :) )
- amazing venues (just have a look here and here)
Another focus is on quality - excellent teachers (Kati & Tiha, Jorge and Marion, Zrinko & Tajana, Misia & Peter) and small workshop groups (15 couples max.). As we want to promote the region they'll be all from the Central Europe! We are warmly inviting all the dancers and - especially - the dancers from the Central Europe to socialize over the course of the 4 intensive tango days. Intensive women's technique workshops
14 -15 March
In these workshops we want to focus on the pivot - in ochos and giros. In the first part of the workshop we'll work on forward and backward ochos, footwork and simple adornos for ochos, both on the floor and in the air. The second part will be devoted to giros - we'll be searching for smoothness and fluidity in turns, not forgeting the musicality (different timing of giros). The theme that will run through the whole workshop is "how to be an active follower".

Carnival Tangomania 2009 - summary
Carnival Tangomania had 15 milongas during the 28days of February and 122 partcipants!
The two winners who went to all milongas got free entrances to all milongas in March plus sweets, all other winners got some free entrances to milongas or workshops/classes.

Intensive women's technique workshops

In these workshops we want to focus on the elegance of the movement which comes from the good technique. In the first part of the workshop apart from working on our balance and posture, we'll work on the footwork - how to use your feet in an elegant way, how to use your high heels for stability and how to place your feet to help you turn more easily. The second part will be devoted to high and low boleos and ganchos.

It's still possible to join Misia's Wednesday technique class (19:30 - 20:30, no partner needed) and our Wednesday intermediate class. This week will be devoted to paradas & pasadas - from cross, ochos and ocho cortado, including adornos (embellishments) for ladies.
All beginners we would like to invite to Friday Misia's and Julian's beginner class - from 20:00 till 21:00, just before Retrolonga. This week will be devoted to cadencia & the embrace. All things we are teaching are useful for milongas - simple but allowing to be creative and interpret the music. It's also useful for those intermediate dancers who want to refresh their fundamentals or false-beginners.
There still 3 more places left for the Sunday part of the intensive women's techniqe workshops with Misia (22 February). Retrolonga Special: Fishnets & Fedoras, Feb. 20
This week's Retrolonga is going to be a special 11th milonga in the Carnival Tangomania series. Celebrating the last days of Carnival we would like to move back for one night to the 1930s - 1940s (Golden Age of tango) and therefore we will have a special dress code: wear any of the two - fishnets (can be stockings, but any other combinations are great - be creative! :) ) or fedora (hat). There is a sweet prize waiting for the most original costume! :)
As regularly there's huge dancefloor (1402m) waiting for you, good music (Golden Age tangos with 3 alternative tandas) and great carnival atmosphere! The bar is still not open, though the owner proposed to put out for us quality red and white wine, fruit juices and water. Drinks will be available for the donation of 300Ft into the box next to the drinks.

The second event is the opening of Retrolonga - a Friday milonga hosted
by us in a beautiful new venue with amazing dance floor.
The openining of Retrolonga will take place on 6th of February with a
special guest DJ - Julian Ingram! (USA, Atlanta).
The regular entrance fee will be 800Ft, however, for the opening night
it will be only 500Ft! Milonga starts at 21:00 and finishes at 24:00
and is also a part of the Carnival Tangomania.

Last minute news: Friday practica and milonga (16.01) will take place in Palatinus Klub - in the 13th district, Pozsonyi út 4/B, near Jaszai Mari square. Guided practica starts at 20:00 and finishes at 21:00. Milonga is from 21:00 till 23:45. Milonga will be treat for all tea lovers - we'll make a small tea party plus you can expect traditional Polish gingerbread ("piernik kętrzyński") baked by Misia :)

We would like to invite you to our first guided practica this year - on Friday (09.01) in Kossuth Klub and afterwards to Villa milonga. Being asked by several dancers, we changed the hours of practica - it's half an hour shorter from 20:00 till 21:00, and Villa milonga starts earlier - 21:00, however, lasts as it used to be - till 00:30. On Sunday there is milonga in Urania! :)

A little bit smaller than Feszek or Urania, but with very nice atmosphere, Friday milonga takes place in a jazz club - Kossuth Klub.

In these workshops we want to focus on the technique of tango nuevo elements such as ganchos, boleos and sacadas in order to make them effortless, comfortable and elegant. Therefore, each class will start with technique exercises preparing for the given element/structure. We want to pay special attention to the posture and the role of the embrace.

During this week's guided practica (31.10) we'll play both tangos and valses. We'll revise the vals "sequence" proposed by Paulina and Janek during the vals workshops. After the practica - Villa milonga in the autumn mood - with the pumpkin cakes baked by Misia. It's also an informal leaving party of Misia (she's leaving on Monday to Buenos Aires).
On Sunday (2.11)- as it is All Souls' Day - we won't play any milongas during the evening. The milonga will take place in the Urania cinema and it will be dedicated to the tanguero Omar Vega who passed away in September this year.

We would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome of Paulina and Janek in Budapest. Thank you for the active participation in the workshops and for coming to Friday and Sunday milonga in crowds! :) We hope to invite Paulina and Janek to Budapest at least once again - most likely in March next year. In the meantime, have a look at the pictures from their stay here and some videos from the classes.
During this week's Friday guided practica (24.10) we'll play both tangos and milongas. We'll revise the "Pepito" milonga step taught among others during the milonga workshop by Paulina and Janek. After the practica, Villa milonga - DJ Misia (Golden Age music and 2 alternative tandas). Sunday milonga (26.10) is going to be in Feszek.
Because of the organizational reasons we are not doing the intermediate class in Holgyvalasz Tancstudio, only the beginner one (Monday, 18:30 - 20:00 - total beginner class ) As we are out for Buenos Aires in November, we'll start the regular intermediate class on January, most likely on Tuesdays in Kossuth Club, together with the practica on the same evening. Yet, in December, after we're back from Argentina, we are going to organize intensive weekend workshops (20-21 December) - stay tuned for details!

Unfortunately, Urania has just informed us that we cannot do milonga today there even though we have a contract signed. Fortunately, we can do milonga at FeszekRestaurant! :) Paulina and Janek will dance for us around 22:00, Peter will be a DJ. The adress: Kertesz u. 35, H-1073 Budapest. We are very sorry for this sudden change, but we still hope that you can come and join us during this special evening! :)

After a break we are coming back with the guided practica this Friday (10.10). After the practica, there's Villa milonga as usual, from 21:30 till 00:30. Misia will play a bunch of Golden Age tangos (D'Arienzo, Di Sarli, Canaro, Biagi, Troilo, Calo etc.), Sexteto Milonguero tanda, alternative valses by Yann Tiersen, alternative milongas by Hugo Diaz and Electrocutango and two never played before alternative tangos - one by Waldeck and the other by Tango Jointz, brought from Poland. We are most warmly inviting! :)
Unfortunately, we have to cancel this week's Sunday milonga (12.10) as Feszek restaurant is organizing another party on this day. However the next Sunday milonga (19.10 Urania) will be really exceptional - Paulina and Janek will dance for us :) There are still places left for their tango milonguero, milonga and vals workshops so have a look at the detailed schedule and let us know if you are interested in taking part in them :) The number of couples is limited to 10!

On 3rd of October (Friday), there's no practica, however,on that day we would like to invite you for Villa milonga Special with DJ Radnai Tamas and live music!. The milonga starts at 21:00 and lasts till 00:30. Entrance fee as usual: 800Ft (drink in the bar included)

In just few days Jose and Vicky we'll be here with us! This special weekend starts on Friday (5.09) with the intermediate class at 20:30 - 21:30 Various sacada combinations led with man's weight on both feet. Because of this there's no practica, class takes place in Kossuth Klub. After that Jose and Vicky show on Villa milonga!Saturday and Sunday are workshops' days.

This week's Friday practica ( 22.08 ) is Practica Alternativa! From 20:00 till 21:30 we'll play the best alternative tangos and neo-tango music for you! (60% of alternative music, 40% Golden Age) After the practica - Villa Milonga - with Golden Age orchestras and two alternative tandas. We would like warmly invite everyone for a special milonga on Erzsebet ter on 24th of August (Sunday).The central theme of the milonga is "be white, be fun"! Be sure to bring good mood and wear some white accent - for this one night let's exchange black clothes for something lighter and in line with the summer aura. :) We start at 20:30 on Erzsebet ter, near the fountain. This weekend - 26-27th of July - is going to be the second weekend of our intensive summer workshops. This time the topic is sacadas - both for the follower and the leader, bakward and forward, in close and in open embrace. We'll work also on our ability to disassociate and execute sacadas efortlessly and without use of any force. The workshop starts both on Saturday and Sunday in morning at 10:00 and continues till 13:30, with a half an hour practica in the middle. The cost of the workshop is 4000HUF for one day, and 7000HUF if you sign up for both days! Location: Holgyvalasz Tancstudio, VI.ker., Paulay Ede u. 41, Budapest.
This week's Sunday milonga takes place in Feszek Restaurant, Kertesz u. 36, H-1073 Budapest.

We would like to invite everyone to the first Practica Alternativa which will take place in Kossuth Klub, Friday 18.07, from 20:00 till 21:30. We'll play 60% of alternative tangos (Libedinsky, Gotan Project, Bajofondo etc.) and 40% of traditional ones. As always we'll be available for questions and explanations.
We'll also shorty review the concept of pasadas that was covered in detail during Luiza Paes and Santiago Steele workshops.
From 21:30 till 00:30 there will be Villa Milonga during which Misia will play the best Golden Age tangos and three alternative tandas.
On Sunday (20.07) we would like to invite everyone to Urania Milonga, with special raffle - entrance for 1 day of our intensive summer sacadas workshops (26-27th of July)!See you there! :)
